Blue skies

Blue skies where the sky and the water seem to meet…

The blue sky above a vast earth’s surface. Blue when the sun is shining and there is not a cloud in the sky. Under the blue sky, everything on this earth lives, grows and flourishes. Underneath that fantastically beautiful blue sky, there is love, happiness, hunger, misery, death and wars.

On the sunlit island of Madeira, where I stayed for a while, I enjoyed the amazing atmosphere and beauty. An island off Casablanca, but 600 kilometers into the Atlantic Ocean.

Blue is the color of the removal. The color of the coolness of the feeling. Blue the dream of a tropical paradise. Somewhere on a lonely island, with everything at hand. Drinks, food and shade to lie in, in a hammock of course. Stretched between two palm trees, slowly swaying back and forth by the sea breeze.

Then from there gaze out over the blue sea. The distance where the sky and the water seem to meet. In the distance, a bright white sail of a sailboat sails by. I follow the ship with a dreamy gaze until it finally disappears on the horizon. My gaze returns to my constant companion: my sketchbook.

“Le ciel bleu” sung by Dalida, rings in my ears. About a failed love and about all that blue. Also, a song by Vicky Leandros “L’amour Est Bleu” that she sang during the Euro song Contest. Times are changing, but so does the emotions of the past. Emotions that shift according to circumstances.
