Life is a dream

When the dreamer dies, what happens to his dreams? No one’s going to know. This drawing with acrylic on paper is an attempt to express this dilemma.

It’s also sometimes said that dreams are a hoax, but I don’t agree with that. Aren’t dreams and ideals far apart and dreams not the beginning of sometimes great creations? As an artist, dreams cannot be separated from the creation of works.

Without my dreams, I can’t make what I’ve made for over half a century. I always make a sketch or a drawing first. Then, after I have put it aside, a final drawing is made or I start painting it. It’s just that I do that on canvas or on paper.

Life is a dream. Our brains are in the tension between emotion and ratio. The situation in which we use it depends on the world in which we are present. Such as happiness or love or in a dangerous situation. The evolution of our human species has left us with this curious discrepancy.

Sometimes we want to dream away, dream that our wishes will be portrayed. The desire for the magic in which reality gets more shine than it actually is. It is sometimes said that the magic has disappeared from our world. Fairy tales, sagas and myths, in books we read, have all disappeared into the background.

Unfortunately, life is not a dream, but it is never too late to pick up the dreams again and drift away to that time when we could still dream.
